MKTG 345 - Week 2 WCP Chapter 1
Chapter one in What Color is Your Parachute is all about the changing job of job hunters. They describe the changing job market and also how finding a job has changed over the past few years.
The job market has changed because people are changing jobs more rapidly than before. The job market post WWII was manufacturing jobs. These jobs are basically gone in today's US economy. These jobs were long term and people tended to stay in one position. The next generation the baby boomers will change jobs on average 17 times from 18-48. This is immensely higher than the generation prior and that is because of the changing market. The next generation is even more different that the one prior. My generation will rapidly change employers and make job hunters work more often because of increasing tech. This is just a small description of how much work job hunters have had in the sat generations.
Job hunting has changed immensely with the introduction of the internet. The introduction of search engines, mega job boards, niche job boards, company job boards and job boards for particular ages has made finding a job much simpler to see openings. Before employers would have to take out ads in papers and use help wanted signed to find employees, now it has changed forever. With sites like linkedin, twitter and indeed you are able to gain many more resumes per job available than ever before. These sites take a job that would have been advertised to a small area to available to the world. This makes the skills in the job market much more refined and specified.
Job hunters have changed in the past years because of a changing market and the implementation of the internet. There are many more jobs to sift through and there are many more people looking to constantly move employment.
